AUKSTOJAS HILL CLOSE TO CAPITAL VILNIUS
Aukštojas Hill is the highest point in Lithuania; it is located in the Medininkai Highlands, Migūnai forestry, approximately 24 kilometres southeast of the capital city of Vilnius. Its elevation was measured in 2004 at 293.84 metres (964.08 feet).
Previously, Juozapinė Hill, at 292.7 metres (960.35 feet), had been officially regarded as the highest point in Lithuania. In 1985, suspicions were raised by Rimantas Krupickas, a Lithuanian geographer, that Juozapinė Hill was not actually Lithuania's highest elevation. Aukštojas Hill is located approximately 500 metres (1,640 feet) west of Juozapinė Hill.
2018-08-21 After reaching Suur Munamägi we had a short drive to a town called Võru. We stayed at a hotel close to the beach. I can imagine that during summer season it is beautiful but now it was rainy and cold and it just looked abandoned.
In the morning we started our drive and reached Aukštojas Hill 294 m in the evening. It was a long drive through whole Latvia to the south in Lithuania, close to the border to Belarus. It took us about 8 hours including some stops.
